Flashback Friday to Rafael’s first stage appearance at her Florida preschool. The Goodship Lollypop was the song and they expected these 3 yr old boys and girls to memorize a routine. Then afterwards, they had to sit on risers on stage for the entire show, facing the audience, while all the other classes performed. It was torture. And we never returned to that school.  R took the words ‘lollypop’ literally and sucked her fingers the whole song. She spent the following hour and a half studying her feet.  Today, she has her first lines on stage. Camp ends. They are performing excerpts from Peter Pan. Not until last afternoon did the counselors realize Rafael and another boy didn’t have a part. I understand, there are 60 kids. “I wanted to cry, Mom, but I sucked it up,” she said, “Then they gave me lines! I close the show!”  This explained the harried camp counselor asking me to wait while he typed something. Her lines: “We hope you have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you again.” “I have to get a good nite’s sleep,” she said.  “Yes you do. These lines are incredibly important. You are the last person the audience will see.” We all know what went on there, but I’ll never tell.
